KINA Ottoman

KINA Ottoman / Table

Designed by David Trubridge

KINA is a sculptural object that lives at the intersection of art, craft, and function. Designed by New Zealand–based designer David Trubridge for CondeHouse in 2017, KINA was later exhibited at ICF NYC in 2018, where its quiet strength and unexpected form drew attention as both furniture and art.

Shaped as an ellipsoid form, KINA is composed of precisely engineered arc-shaped wooden elements—22 pieces in the smaller size and 24 in the larger. Each curve is machine-molded and cut for accuracy, then carefully polished and oil-finished by hand. This balance of advanced technology and human craftsmanship gives KINA its distinctive character: refined, tactile, and deeply considered.

Designed to function as either an ottoman or a low table, KINA is topped with natural cork—an eco-conscious material that adds warmth, softness, and visual contrast. It is a piece meant not only to be used, but to be lived with and admired, changing subtly with light and perspective throughout the day.

Large Ottoman (Cork Top)

Designer

DAvid Trubridge

David Trubridge is one of New Zealand’s most celebrated designers, known globally for furniture and lighting that draw deeply from nature, exploration, and sustainability. His work is produced and sold worldwide, and his influence extends well beyond design objects.

In 2008, L’Express named him one of the world’s top 15 designers. In 2012, the Centre Pompidou in Paris acquired his Icarus installation for its permanent collection. His collaborations include Cappellini, Boffi, and Offecct.

Trubridge considers himself not a problem-solver, but an explorer—drawn to liminal spaces where creativity emerges unexpectedly. His philosophy centers on humility toward nature, a rejection of excess, and a belief that true creativity exists at the edges: between light and dark, structure and freedom, form and feeling.

KINA embodies this ethos—an object shaped by curiosity, restraint, and a profound respect for the natural world.
