NAGARE Lounge Chair
NAGARE Armchair
Designed by Masayuki Nagare
Unlike a sculpture meant only to be observed, the NAGARE Armchair is designed to be experienced by the human body. It is a rare fusion of art and function—where sculptural intent meets comfort, strength, and daily use.
This chair marks the first furniture design by renowned sculptor Masayuki Nagare. He personally created the prototype and began development with master furniture makers in Asahikawa, Japan, in October 2005. Over six months were devoted to translating his sculptural vision into a functional object—without compromising its artistic tension or integrity.
Particular care was taken in shaping the line that flows from the backrest through the arms. Rather than smoothing this transition completely, Nagare introduced a deliberate ridgeline along the front legs and seat. This subtle edge creates dynamic light and shadow, giving the chair a sense of quiet tension and movement—an unmistakable sculptor’s signature.
Strength and comfort were essential design conditions. Crafted from carefully selected, top-grade walnut, the chair relies on precise woodworking and structural discipline to ensure durability, balance, and long-term use. The result is a chair that feels grounded and supportive, while remaining visually light and expressive.
NAGARE is not simply furniture—it is a functional work of art, shaped by hand, intention, and time.
